This study examines the phenomenon referred to as “digital colonization” by the TikTok refugees group on the RedNote application—specifically, the migration of users from TikTok to another platform and its resulting cultural impacts. The main focus of this research is how digital cultural dominance, communication patterns, and media practices of specific user groups can influence the ecosystem of a new platform and reshape the digital space.
Using a postcolonial perspective, this research analyzes power relations, symbolic dominance, and the potential reproduction of cultural hegemony in the digital sphere. Meanwhile, a cultural studies approach is used to analyze changes in values, identity, and user behavior arising from cross-cultural interactions on the platform.
This study also highlights the potential impact of this phenomenon on national character building, particularly regarding local values, national identity, and media ethics amid the wave of digital globalization.
The results of the study are expected to provide a critical understanding of how digital migration dynamics and global cultural dominance can affect local communities, while offering reflection for formulating strategies to strengthen national character in the digital era.

This research on the “Digital Colonization of TikTok Refugees on the RedNote Application” aligns closely with the achievements of SDG 4 (Quality Education), particularly regarding targets to strengthen digital literacy, media ethics, and national character building relevant to global challenges. Through a critical analysis of digital migration and cultural hegemony, this study contributes to formulating educational strategies to preserve local values, national identity, and healthy digital citizenship among the younger generation.
In addition, this study supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting a more inclusive, fair digital space with minimal cultural conflicts resulting from the symbolic power dominance of global platforms.
