Unpad Supports Every Woman to Take Part and Create Achievements
Discrimination is still a threat to human life. There are various forms of discrimination, such as gender discrimination. This often happens to women, especially in the workplace. In this case, the gender anti-discrimination movement is a movement that is increasingly being vocalized.
Universitas Padjadjaran is one of the universities that has successfully implemented gender equality in campus management. Rector of Unpad, Prof. Rina Indiastuti, states that as many as 45% of the total 662 management officials at Unpad, ranging from the level of university leaders to study programs, are filled by women. Thanks to this, the campus received appreciation from the Public Information Commission as a university with the highest number of female leaders in Indonesia.
Not only that, based on data collected as of March 2, 2023, 51% of the total Unpad students are women. This figure is a sign that Universitas Padjadjaran supports efforts to realize gender equality.
The Chancellor of Unpad states that equality, which has become a culture, is the key for Unpad to achieve the realization of gender equality.
“We have no problem, gender equality has occurred. Why is it possible? Because there is no barrier, no one has a problem. We are very used to it,” says Prof. Rina.
Meanwhile, Prof. Rina also says that women’s opportunity to take part and create achievements is a process that is not as easy as men’s. This is based on responsibility to herself and her family.
On the commemoration of International Women’s Day 2023, Unpad’s Chancellor also gave appreciation for the achievements made by women, considering the process that was not easy to achieve.
“It cannot be done carelessly. To achieve this, it is necessary to organize the way of life and the way of working. There are the main responsibilities of a woman, namely herself and her family. To be able to attain achieve, she must be able to guarantee her family to also achieve,” said the first female Rector of Unpad.
The Chancellor also adds that the support system, such as family, colleagues, and society occupy an equally important role in efforts to realize gender equality.
Realizing the condition of the number of women who became managing officials in the Unpad education environment, the Chancellor realized that this was one sign that the campus environment has become accustomed to supporting women in taking part and excelling.
As for the commemoration of International Women’s Day 2023, Unpad officially received the Indonesian Women Champion Award in the Education category from the Indonesian Women Champion Foundation. The award was given directly by the initiator of the foundation, Atalia Praratya, to the Chancellor of Unpad at the Indonesia Hijab Walk 2023 event at Trans Luxury Hotel, Bandung on Friday (10/3).
Consistency and a good and supportive ecosystem play an important role in efforts to improve women’s work. Thus, both women and men can have the same opportunity to advance.
