Prof. Dr. Susi Yuliawati, S.S., M.Hum. from the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, has recently published a research article in Wacana: Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia (Vol. 26, No. 1, 2025). The article, titled “Transformed Images of Women in a Sundanese Magazine: A Corpus Linguistics Perspective,” explores the evolving representation of women in Sundanese media through the analysis of the popular magazine Manglé.

By applying corpus linguistics methods, Prof. Dr. Susi examines the frequency and collocation of specific nouns denoting women to trace shifts in how Sundanese femininity is portrayed over time. The study highlights the growing use of the noun “wanoja” (woman), which reflects a transformation in representation, portraying women as more confident and increasingly engaged in the public sphere.
Beyond its findings on gender representation, the article also illustrates how corpus-based linguistic analysis can be applied to regional publications, providing a methodological framework for future research on Indonesian language, culture, and media.

Prof. Dr. Susi Yuliawati earned her doctoral degree from Universitas Indonesia. Her research interests include corpus linguistics, language and gender, and language and culture, and this latest publication further strengthens her contribution to linguistic and cultural studies in Indonesia.
