In Response to Global Issues, Unpad Establishes Environmental Science Study Program
In order to ensure a sustainable life, it is important to optimize efforts in both social and natural aspects. In relation to this, there are various ways for higher institutions to develop skilled and knowledgeable students who are capable of creating and improving the quality of various aspects in our daily lives. One of them is by organizing master and doctoral study programs in Environmental Science.
Universitas Padjadjaran is one of the universities that provides the program. As reported from the official website of Pasca Unpad, the Environmental Science study program was initially established through the Ecology Institute (recently changed its name to the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science) which focuses on the field of Natural Resources and Environment in 1972. Furthermore, a doctoral study program in Environmental Science was established in 2012.
In the process, the curriculum was developed in collaboration with another international university, the University of Twente (Netherlands) and has also received input from various ministries. This aims to address global challenges related to climate, environmental, and sustainable development issues within the national and global scope.
In this regard, the quality of Universitas Padjadjaran’s Environmental Science study program is well acknowledged through the international accreditation as of 2023 from The Agency for Quality Assurance through the Accreditation of Study Programmes (AQAS) based in Germany.
Dean of Unpad Postgraduate School, Prof. Dr. Med. Setiawan, dr. explained that AQAS was selected because of its proven quality.
“We chose AQAS as it is the best in not only Germany, but also in Europe, and globally. We believe international accreditation is not a goal, but a reward for efforts to implement adequate internal quality assurance,” said Prof. Setiawan.
In addition, the Unpad Environmental Science study program has also been awarded national accreditation from BAN-PT valid throughout 2023 to 2028.
Through the provision of study programs that support the achievement of sustainable life, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and other faculties, including the Graduate School of Universitas Padjadjaran always strive to improve the quality of our lives through education.
