FIB Unpad’s PPM Team Assists with Legal Process for Jatiroke Tourism Village Institution

In September 2025, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at Universitas Padjadjaran began PPM activities in the Jatiroke Tourism Village, Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency. The main topic of these activities was the development of sustainable tourism based on the local community. Led by Vincentia Tri Handayani, the research team consisted of lecturers from various study programs at FIB: Dr. Sri Rijati, Dr. Cicu Finalia, Nurul Hikmayaty Saefullah, and Gilang Januarsyah.

According to the FIB Unpad PPM Team, Jatiroke Village has high potential as a Tourism Village. Some of Jatiroke Village’s strengths in the fields of nature and local culture includes:
1. The Teras Gunung Geulis tourist attraction, a former land excavation site located at a high altitude, offering views of Bandung and Sumedang from Teras Gunung Geulis.
2. Their premium coffee product, Gugels coffee, which is not widely known.
3. Their distinctive arts, namely pencak silat and singa depok.

However, tourism management can only be sustainable and well-directed if there is official recognition from the local government through the designation of the village as a Pioneering Tourism Village.

Therefore, this program aims to accelerate the legalization process of tourist villages through technical and strategic assistance. To achieve this target, the PPM team provides assistance to village officials and the community in the administrative process. They provide assistance in fulfilling administrative requirements, strengthening supporting documents, and compiling tourist village profiles in accordance with the standards set by the district government.

Some other key activities carried out by the team are:
1. Procurement of identity signs and promotion of Teras Gunung Geulis tourism.
2. Training for officials on tourism villages.
3. Implementation of Tourism Events.

With this support, the PPM team hopes that Jatiroke Village will gain recognition as a Pioneering Tourism Village, while also having a strong legal foundation to develop tourism in a professional, structured, and competitive manner.
