Supporting Public Knowledge Improvement, Students Hold Kandally Exhibition

Jatinangor, West Java – Knowledge is inclusive, so it should be accessible to anyone. The library is a means of supporting the acquisition of information. Not only storing books, but libraries generally also store various items that support the acquisition of information. As done by the students of the Library and Information Science study program at Padjadjaran University class of 2022. In November 2023, they held an exhibition that raised the habit patterns of Sundanese people with the theme “Kandally” which stands for “Kandaga Sundanese Gallery.” The exhibition was held at Kandaga Building (Unpad Central Library Jatinangor) on Monday (27/11) to Wednesday (29/11).  Wina Erwina, Head of the Knowledge Management Center of Universitas Padjadjaran who is also the lecturer, said that the “Kandally” exhibition is a form of final assignment for two courses, namely Cultural Documentation and Public Relations of Information Institutions. This activity was also supported by the Knowledge Management Center of Universitas Padjadjaran. “The two courses are combined, students organize an event (whose) content is from the Dokumentasi Budaya (Cultural Documentation) course,” says Wina.  Wina also explained that the “Kandally” exhibition focuses on the main point, namely the habitual patterns of Sundanese people in paddy farming, field farming, animal husbandry, and fisheries. The information presented is not only limited to books but also in the form of infographics and daily appliances, making it visually appealing.  “There are lute, angklung, and traditional kitchen utensils. There is a section on Sundanese traditional clothes. There are daily clothes, special clothes, and so on. Visitors who come there can wear the clothes and be photographed,” Wina explained.  The timing of the exhibition, which coincides with the Pimnas 36 event, makes it a special attraction for guests and visitors. Wina believes that this moment can be used as an opportunity to disseminate the results of collaboration in various fields of science in accordance with the principles of the Knowledge Management Center. This makes Kandally an entertaining, educative, and informative event.   Through the Kandally exhibition, Wina hopes that guests and Unpad students will get to know the Sundanese community better. On the one hand, the implementation of the program is also expected to increase student experience and expertise, especially in organizing events and creating exhibition content. The “Kandally” exhibition also received a positive response from Unpad students. Three students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), namely Mahfirotu, Fazra, and Nabila expressed their admiration for the concept of organizing exhibitions and information that raised Sundanese culture.  “The most interesting part of the gallery series is the clothes, because you can try them on directly. The experience is better because you can try it on and take photos,” says Fazra.  The three students admitted that they got new information that they had not known before, such as the different types and shapes of gardening hoes in the Sundanese tradition. The diversity of gardening hoes is believed to have its own philosophy. Cultural exhibitions that are attractively packaged are one way for libraries to open access to information acquisition for the public. Thus, this can expand the community’s opportunity to access information through library services. Writer: Maria Imanuella Dewi SekartajiTranslator: Jauza Maryam Mumtazah

Unpad’s PUSPA Day Care Supports Employees’ and Students’ Seven Children

Jatinangor, December 15 – In Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), staff members and a number of students in many faculties, including the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, juggle working on their thesis or finish essays, while taking care of little children. This compartmentalized role often creates some challenges, particularly when relying on household help who may not be fully aware of the specific needs and expectations from these situations.  Unpad set up a PUSPA Day Care facility to deal with these problems. Every mother who works or goes to school can leave their children in this place. They are assured that their children will be safe throughout while they go about doing what has made them end up being good mothers. PUSPA lightens the load of finding reliable, affordable child care and creates a village for these parents. PUSPA aims to support the right growth of infants and children beyond convenience. The nursery manages to provide adequate love, care, and attention as well as feeding and drinking rest, hygiene from June 7th. Furthermore, programs provide guided learning experiences with other children in a group setting led by educated instructors. It provides a good impact on their growth and development with this holistic approach. Starting July, PUSPA opened for the employees’ children, lecturers and postgraduate students (LPPM) in Unpad Jatinangor and local residents. Presently, there are seven children in their daycare with another 11 participating in the early childhood education program. This made it possible for parents built by the Unpad community and the Faculty of Cultural Sciences to feel safe to live in their perspective and professional lives knowing that they are treated with high care. Pusat Studi Bahasa Jepang (PSBJ), Unpad FIB’s Japanese Language Center

Unpad FIB’s Japanese Language Center known as Pusat Studi Bahasa Jepang (PSBJ) was established in 1988 and was a historic building of the Japanese Literature Department, Faculty of Letters, Unpad at that time. The Japanese Language and Literature Department at that time was considered successful in bridging the relationship between Indonesia and Japan. The building, which has been called the PSBJ building since its inception, was aided by the Japanese government (JICA). The hard work of the Japanese Literature lecturers at that time had optimally intensified academic implementation, not only for students and lecturers of Japanese literature at the municipal level and at the West Java level but even at the National level. Among them are the Implementation of the Japanese Language and Culture Week ‘Bunkasai’ which is held annually in collaboration with state and private universities throughout West Java, Pre Overseas Training (POT) in collaboration with DIKTI for 4 consecutive years (2002-2006), the Japanese Language Program in collaboration with IPTN (NSI), and the Japanese language course program in collaboration with ITB (OECF). Cooperation with The Japan Foundation – Embassy of Japan, universities, and city governments in Japan, was the beginning of a fairly good historical journey and is still being implemented until now. The routine program of implementing Bunkasai which this year is the 42nd implementation always receives assistance from The Japan Foundation specifically for organizing the West Java Level Japanese Language Speech Competition and also the implementation of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (UKBJ) for the West Java regional area which is always held every year in December. PSBJ has also collaborated with the Fujisawa city government, Kanagawa prefecture – Japan in the Shounan Cultural mission program. Through this program, outstanding students in the field of Culture will be sent to Japan every month to introduce Indonesian Culture to elementary and junior high school students there. This is definitely an opportunity for Japanese Literature Study Program students to get the best experience as university representatives as well as Indonesian cultural ambassadors. The current position of PSBJ is under the auspices of the faculty and is directly responsible to the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, will coordinate with the heads of departments within the Faculty and will always coordinate with the Head of the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Padjadjaran University. PSBJ provides services related to the Japanese language, one of which is the implementation of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Creating an Eco-friendly Campus, Unpad Provides Electric Bikes in Collaboration with Beam Mobility

Jatinangor, West Java – The provision of clean and affordable energy is currently a matter of public desire. This is inseparable from the advantages it has, such as being environmentally friendly and economical. One of the efforts to achieve this is by providing adequate public transportation in the campus environment. In line with this, Universitas Padjadjaran collaborated with Beam Mobility to bring about a green campus. Unpad initiated this by providing 500 units of electric bicycles at the Jatinangor campus as one of the on-campus transportation. On the other hand, the vehicle is also used as a mobilization operation during the 36th National Student Academic Week (Pimnas) at Unpad Campus on November 26 – December 1, 2023.  The Coordinator of Cooperation for the 36th Pimnas Organizing Committee, Dr. Cipta Endyana, M.T. stated that each electric bicycle unit is equipped with a helmet device and user insurance.  “Starting from Pimnas, this electric bike will be a means of transportation on the Jatinangor Campus (Unpad),” Cipta tells Unpad Media Channel.  Cipta adds that the electric bicycle can be used by anyone during the Pimnas period. He also mentions that the on-campus two-wheeled vehicles will be distributed at several points of the building that will be the location of Pimnas.  Cipta hopes that all Unpad residents can continue to utilize the Beam electric bicycle after Pimnas is over. This is in accordance with Unpad’s support for preserving the environment.  “It is also expected that emissions on campus will decrease with the presence of this electric bike,” he says.  Environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions should be a shared responsibility. The use of environmentally friendly vehicles should be easily accessible to all elements of society. With that, the habit of leaving a carbon footprint is reduced and the condition of nature becomes better. Writer: Maria Imanuella Dewi Sekartaji Translator: Jauza Maryam Mumtazah

AGT Livery: FIB Student Startup for Indonesia

Jatinangor, West Java – FIB Unpad is very concerned about the growth and development of its community, in order to realize a sustainable campus. This affects the quality of FIB Unpad students, where many FIB Unpad students have non-academic achievements, one of which is achievement in the field of entrepreneurship.  Iqbal Agustiana (often called Iqbal) is one of the 2021 Indonesian Study Program students who is consistent in running his AGT Livery startup. AGT Livery was born from Iqbal’s love for bus transportation and his hobby of editing graphics (livery) on mobile phones for the purposes of the game “Bus Simulator”.  Thanks to prayer, effort, and consistency, in 2019, one of the bus transportation companies in Tegal was interested in collaborating with Iqbal regarding designing a livery for buses. From there, AGT Livery was born as a startup that provides bus graphic design services for various bus transportation companies throughout Indonesia.  Establishing and maintaining AGT Livery is not an easy thing to do. Iqbal experienced various problems, such as design orders that were not available every month, hardware constraints, limited storage space, copyright infringement, and customers who had no news after entering into cooperation.  However, despite all these problems, AGT Livery has managed to maintain consumer confidence in the use of bus graphic design services. “There are several companies, and one of them is a company from Makassar, South Sulawesi that always orders its bus livery design at AGT. It’s never missed. For me, it is an achievement, because I can maintain clients for a long time. In addition, another achievement, AGT Livery services have been used by a company that I really admire, namely the Enchantment Bus, owned by one of the Automotive Youtubers Mas Wahid,” explained Iqbal.  Thanks to this, Iqbal was honored at the FIB Awards 2023 as “Best Young Entrepreneur”. He is very proud and touched because FIB Unpad pays attention to the growth and development of its civitas.  “Keep going, no matter how little the process is. You will see that a small process can make a big change in your life. Study what you want, until you get it all,” said Iqbal. Writer: Yohanes William IvakdalamTranslator: Jauza Maryam Mumtazah
