FIB Smart and Green Campus: Innovative Programs for Energy Efficiency and Climate Action

Ilmu Budaya / August 1, 2025

Jatinangor, 1 August 2025 — The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at Universitas Padjadjaran has launched the FIB Smart and Green Campus initiative, a strategic program aimed at creating an environmentally friendly campus while actively contributing to climate change mitigation. This initiative aligns with the faculty’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 7 & 13), particularly in promoting clean energy, efficiency, and climate action.

This year, FIB has implemented several innovative programs as part of the Smart and Green Campus initiative:

  1. Reduction of Plastic and Paper Waste
The faculty has introduced measures to minimize the use of single-use plastics and paper. Digital documentation, reusable bottles and cups, and internal awareness campaigns are among the key strategies to reduce waste.
  2. Organic and Inorganic Waste Management
Organic waste from canteens, laboratories, and academic activities is processed into compost, while inorganic waste is sorted and recycled. This approach not only reduces landfill waste but also fosters environmental awareness among students and staff.
  3. Hazardous Waste (B3) Management
FIB manages hazardous waste, including chemical, medical, and electronic waste, according to environmental safety standards and government regulations, minimizing contamination risks and promoting campus safety.
  4. Water Efficiency and Conservation
The initiative promotes wise water usage through water-saving devices, reuse of certain wastewater streams, and awareness campaigns for students and staff to conserve water.
  5. Energy Efficiency
The faculty implements energy-saving measures such as efficient lighting, energy-efficient electrical equipment, and optimized air-conditioning systems to reduce electricity consumption.

Through these programs, FIB Unpad is creating a cleaner, more efficient campus while educating students and staff to become pioneers of sustainable lifestyles. The Smart and Green Campus initiative is expected to serve as a model for other faculties and make a tangible contribution to carbon reduction, resource conservation, and climate change adaptation.

FIB Smart and Green Campus demonstrates that campus innovation can go hand in hand with education, research, and environmental responsibility, creating a positive long-term impact for both society and the planet.
