Unpad PSDKU Collaborates with East China National University to Study Fisheries and Marine Science
Collaboration is an important key to achieving goals. Through collaboration, there is an exchange of knowledge and experience that can support the effort at hand.
This is in line with what is done by Universitas Padjadjaran Pangandaran Campus, also referred to as “PSDKU” (“Program Studi di Luar Kampus Utama” or Study Program Outside the Main Campus), which collaborates with East China Normal University State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC). The cooperation between the two institutions aims to increase knowledge and access to research technology in the fields of fisheries and marine sciences.
The director of Unpad PSDKU Pangandaran, Alexander M.A. Khan, explained that the collaboration aims to improve the quality of education and research related to fisheries and marine science. This is also in line with the vision to promote the culture of each country.
“The cooperation will be in the form of joint research and publications, student and staff exchanges, and other academic activities carried out collectively within an agreed period of time,” said Alex.
In addition to working with SKLEC, Unpad PSDKU has also previously joined the Ocean Color-based plant species identification and Carbon flux in Indo-Pacific oceans (OC-PC) Study Group, which are part of the Integrated Marine Biosphere Research (IMBeR). This international project was attended by thirteen researchers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore.
Alex also explained that as a first step, the cooperation will focus on learning related to tropical marine fisheries and marine science, especially in the Pangandaran area and Indonesia in a broader sense. This activity requires the contribution of professors, especially in Unpad PSDKU’s Tropical Marine Fisheries study program.
He said that the cooperation carried out not only had an impact on Universitas Padjadjaran, but also helped improve learning performance, data development, and in-depth knowledge related to fisheries and marine science.
“The latest data and information will be studied together so that it can bring new perspectives related to fisheries and marine science, as well as technology in Indonesia,” he revealed.
Previously in November 2023, Alex and the Head of Tropical Marine Fisheries study program of Unpad Pangandaran, Lantun Paradhita Dewanti attended the IMBeR conference. As a result of the conference, cooperation is now established between Unpad PSDKU and East China Normal University SKLEC, especially related to the field of marine fisheries and marine science in the Pangandaran area.
In addition to contributing to scientific activities, Alex hopes that the collaboration will be able to improve Unpad’s reputation on a global scale while gaining international experience and perspectives.
