Jatinangor, West Java — The Undergraduate Program of Agricultural Industrial Technology from the Faculty of Agroindustrial Technology held an “Agroindustrial Product Design and Planning Exhibition” at Agroindustrial Technology Unpad Campus, Jatinangor, on Thursday (23/6).

This exhibition is an external activity from two project-based courses, Project and Business Design and Agroindustrial Process Design, each with 3 credits. Dr. Efri Mardawati asserted this statement as an Agroindustrial Process Design course coordinator.

Dr. Efri also stated that designing a comprehensive agroindustrial business is a primary goal to be achieved by the graduate of this study program. Therefore, through this event, the study program hoped that students would continue to innovate and develop new products that enhance the value of agricultural products for industry.

Agricultural Industrial Technology students are divided into several teams and have done product designing, process designing, business feasibility analysis, business layout and systems, and business management. They make it so the ability to work in a team, a soft skill important in professional life, is trained earlier.

The coordinator of the Project and Business Design course, Ir. Totok Pujianto, M.T. added, “This exhibition is a part of a series of lecture activities to apply the science of agroindustrial design, train entrepreneurial skills, and strengthen one team’s coordination.”
This event exhibited ten kinds of innovative products designed and made by students. Among the innovative commodities, the ones that are used the most are potatoes and bananas, with 3 products each made out of those commodities. The agroindustrial products made by potatoes are “DE POTA Keripik Kentang Asli”, “Eattos”, and “Frozen French Fries”, meanwhile the bananas are “Aur Banana”, “Ba-Na Crunch”, and “Crunchly”.

Commodities such as pineapples, sweet potato, and essential oils are also used here. “Eppines” and “HappyJam” are products made of known and potential pineapple from Subang, West Java. Honey sweet potato, known in Indonesia as Ubi Cilembu, from local farms, is also utilized for making a packaged noodle product named “I-POMIE”. Lastly, there is also “Selensia Essential Oil” as the only non-food product there.

The products exhibited in this activity are expected to become prototypes of agro-industry businesses that can continue to be developed by students. A specific development must be done to become superior products fostered by the Agricultural Industrial Technology Unpad Study Program, such as Equine Black Garlic, Naroma Indonesia, Manner Perfume, Mango Day, and other products. On the other hand, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Unpad is also expected to take a role in developing these products, especially in packaging and marketing that emphasizes cultural aspects.

The agroindustry product exhibition activities that the Agricultural Industrial Technology Unpad students have carried out will be assessed and equipped by external assessors who are practitioners in the field of agroindustry. The assessment and briefing are exclusively given to final-year students and will soon be held in the Assessment course.
