Jatinangor, April 19, 2023 — A total of 83 Padjadjaran University students have been selected to be awarded the Smart Scholarship 2023 from the Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) of Baznas Unpad. The scholarship was symbolically presented in Bale Rumawat Park, Jalan Dipati Ukur No.35, Bandung, Tuesday (16/4).

Head of UPZ Baznas Unpad, Dr. Hazbini, M.Ag., Lecturer at Arabic Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, explains that this scholarship was made possible by the zakat funds of Unpad community members collected in UPZ Baznas Unpad. Dr. Hazbini states that this scholarship is granted to Unpad students, especially for underprivileged students, in the form of financial support for living expenses and pocket money, as well as UKT or tuition fee assistance for one semester. This scholarship program is one of the attempts to increase the number of muzaki or zakat donors in Unpad.

Beneficiaries of this scholarship program are prioritized for students who are recommended by the study program, faculty, or university and come from underprivileged families. In addition, students can also apply for the scholarship by providing the required documents.

There are several stages in the selection process for the Smart Scholarship 2023 recipients, such as administrative selection, interviews, and FGDs, followed by the announcement of the scholarship awardees.

Regarding the scholarship requirements, Dr. Hazbini notes that there are several main requirements that need to be considered by applicants of this scholarship program. Individuals applying for the scholarship must be declared an active student, is a Muslim, has a minimum GPA of 3.00, comes from an underprivileged family as evidenced by the ceritifcate of indigency, and is committed to becoming a UPZ volunteer.

Dr. Hazbini also hopes that this scholarship can provide opportunities for underprivileged students to further pursue their education.

“We expect this scholarship to successfully be one of the support systems for financially struggling students in the university. In addition, we also hope that this scholarship can be a positive trigger to increase the number of muzaki (zakat donors), so that many academicians of Universitas Padjadjaran will contribute to UPZ Unpad,” said Dr. Hazbini.
