FIB Unpad Editorial Team – Faculty of Cultural Sciences successfully conducted the Festival Budaya Maritim with the theme “traces of maritime culture, world heritage” on Friday, June 5, 2026. The event, which took place at the Building A Parking Area of FIB Unpad from 7:00 until 11:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), served as a lively and colorful cultural celebration.
Series of Events
The festival was organized as part of the 2025/2026 Final Semester Examination (UAS) for the Introduction to Sundanese Cultural course, showcasing the work and creativity of students from various study programs within FIB Unpad.
The series of the event activities included a carnival where each study program marched together from the FIB Unpad security post to the front of the deanery building. The event then continued with a conceptually designed art performance by each study program, ranging from cabarets, poetry readings, ritual performances, to traditional dances.
“During the performance, French Literature presented a bilingual poem, reciting in French set but along with Sundanese music and there is a theatrical enactment too,” said Ayi, a Festival Budaya Maritim participant from French Literature study program, when asked about their program’s performance.
Lastly, the event finished with a fashion show, where each study program showcased creative custom designs representing the respective major’s country of study, blended with Indonesian archipelago culture, seamlessly merging local and international cultural aesthetics.
Maritime Cultural Exhibition Booths
Besides the three main segments, each study program also prepared an exhibition stand displaying culinary creations from Sundanese combined with the unique characteristics of each program. These stands were evaluated based on their decorations and featured banners containing infographics about Sundanese Maritime Culture and the maritime culture of each study program’s respective country.
The Enthusiasm of Cultural Preservation
Through this festival, FIB Unpad demonstrated its commitment to introduce and preserve the rich maritime culture of the Indonesian archipelago for the younger generation. The combination of art performances, culinary exhibitions, and a fashion show transformed this festival into a dynamic and educational space for cultural expression. Furthermore, the event is expected to raise awareness of SDG 14: Life Below Water.
