Sumedang — The academic community at Universitas Padjadjaran continues to strengthen the region’s tourism potential. Through the Unpad Berdampak 2026 Community Service Team (PPM), the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at Unpad organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and a field survey in Citengah Village, Sumedang Regency, to promote sustainable tourism.
The event, held by Dr. Dewi Ratnasari, M.Hum., involved the Citengah Village Tourism Promotion Group (Kompepar). The discussion focused on identifying local tourism potential, mapping challenges, and designing strategies for sustainable destination development.
In addition, as part of the program titled “Citengah Smart Navigation: Development of an Interactive Digital Tourism Map and Strengthening of Social Media Literacy for Tourism Advocacy Groups in Citengah Village, Sumedang Regency,” the team also conducted an on-site visit to one of the flagship destinations, Puteri River Inn, to assess the need for facility development and digital promotion.
Launch an Educational Tourism Pilot Project
This initiative marks the first step in developing a community-based educational tourism pilot project. By combining digital technology and social media literacy, Citengah Village is expected to become a highly competitive, self-sustaining tourist destination that remains environmentally conscious.
Promoting Sustainable Tourism
This community service program is designed to have a tangible impact aligned with several points of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. The development of educational tourism and the improvement of local residents’ social media literacy can create new job opportunities and boost the rural economy through the creative economy.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Innovations in the creation of interactive digital tourism maps facilitate access to information and strengthen the digital tourism infrastructure in rural areas.
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Through Kompepar’s involvement, the development of tourism villages is carried out in a planned manner without damaging the ecological character and local wisdom of the area.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The synergy between academics (FIB Unpad), local tourism managers (Kompepar), and the community of Citengah Village is the key to achieving regional tourism self-sufficiency.
